The Challenge—

Invites are just the start, but RSVPs don’t plan the party.

Problems

Planning events is complex.

Accommodating a group of people gets complex by selecting dates, locations, and menus for everyone's preferences.

It’s not just fun invites.

Get-togethers are more than just invites with animations and decorative types. Existing content is targeted to a younger audience, and user accessibility isn’t prioritized.

Opportunities

Invitations are disposable, but memories are forever. Focus on inclusivity, capture features to help hosts better plan their events & accommodate guests' needs with ease.

Goals & Approach—

Identifying gaps in the market and crafting a design approach rooted in user needs and accessibility.

We began researching direct competitors in the industry and building a simple SWOT analysis revealing specific pain points in the existing user experience, event planning needs, and accessibility issues. With chief stakeholders, I led discussions to identify the brand's core pillars, personality traits, and overall mission. From the initial wireframe stage, I collaborated with the engineering team to align on development scope, UX structure, and capabilities within our timeline and budget to understand the most logical design approach and ensure a smooth handoff.

The Identity—

A playful hand-lettering logo that is unique, timeless, and ready to celebrate.

The word "Huzza" is a cheer shouted in celebration, inspiring the product name. We wanted to create an identity that visually celebrates and connects our audience to joy through our brand. Because of this, I conceptualized the logo with custom sketched hand-lettering that adds personality and is perfectly imperfect. The identity features stylized serifs and playful letter placement to show movement in the logomark and connect to the cheerful emotion behind the meaning.

It was essential to develop a unique brand that encompasses the versatility of events while maintaining a unified voice and tone. The core brand principles are celebration, togetherness, and ease of use. Using motifs such as animated confetti, minimalist starburst patterns, and decorative typography, we visually illustrate festivity and delight throughout the Huzza brand. These visual brand elements built consistency across all digital & print media, including a website, marketing material, company SWAG, social media campaigns, and overall product design.

The Product—

The events app designed to bring people together.

Huzza is an all-in-one event management mobile app that allows hosts and guests to plan smarter and party harder. This SAAS mobile app enables event planners to send custom invitations, organize guest preferences, and plan menus smarter for free. With existing group planning problems like finding mutual times, knowing dietary preferences, and preventing menu overspending, Huzza focuses on making event planning easy and accommodating for everyone.

Designing for accessibility was key to expanding the user base for event applications. With smartwatch compatibility and quick Siri commands, users can create and manage events at a glance or with simple voice prompts, enabling hands-free, intuitive interactions. These features support users with mobility or visual impairments, allowing for quick event updates and ease of use for everyone.

One system, endless possibilities. A foundational design system that scales easily and is used effortlessly.

I developed a fully structured design system with responsive components for all screen sizes, configurable variations, and design documentation for scalable development and universal product consistency.

I wrote detailed documentation listing all the product components, how to use the configuration system, how to translate components to code, and how to build off the foundational design system.

Using icons to provide clarity, improve usability, transcend language barriers, and empower users of all abilities to interact with our app confidently.

Results & Impact—

The company successfully built the mobile application, which will soon be available on the app store for free use. My detailed development documentation, functional prototypes, and collaborative handoff reduced the engineering costs by half their original estimate. With prepared assets and an onboarded marketing team, we unified the brand visuals and messaging across all digital platforms.

Conclusion—

Having a background in front-end development, I worked closely with engineering teams to align on scope, architecture, and feature design. This knowledge base advanced our development timeline and reduced back-and-forth clarifications significantly. I directed UX interactions, validation states, and triggered animations while reducing scope when needed to fulfill the main user story. My unique combination of design expertise and dev knowledge can quickly advance any product design team.
